I have downloaded a trial of sony vegas 9 platinum and been using it for the last 2 weeks, I love the software, it has been a steep learning curve but have learnt loads just reading through this forum.

If I buy sony vegas 9 platinum will Ibe able to upgrade to sony vegas 9 pro at a later stage once I am familiar with platinum and would I have to pay the full price for it or would I get discounted price as an upgrade?

Reason why I ask this is that I am considering purchasing pro 9 after my trial as I dont want to layout money now and then upgraded say in a few months from now to pro 9, would rather take the plunge now.

You can not upgrade from the Platnium version 9 to Pro 9. You must have Vegas Pro 8 in order to up grade to Pro 9. A lot of people misunderstand about Vegas Movie Platnium 9 Pro pack is the same as Vegas pro 9. The Pro 9 cost 5 times more than movie Platnium 9. Platnium 9 Pro pack is simply is a package deal. It contains DVD Architect, Cinescore and Sony Sound forge. Hope this help.

You cannot upgrade from Vegas Movie Studio Platinum to Vegas Movie Studio Platinum Pro Pack.

You can upgrade from Vegas Movie Studio Platinum to Vegas Pro 9.

What's more it used to be (and may still be - I haven't checked) CHEAPER to buy Vegas Movie Studio and the upgrade to Vegas Pro, than buying Vegas Pro outright in the first place. (All totally legit from Sony Creative Software). I've had thanks from people who've saved in the order of $100 by doing it this way.

Nearly. You'll need to add VAT or whatever your local sales tax is to that figure, but that's how I read it. And it's worked for others in the past. Good luck.
And as a little bonus, you can even legitimately SELL the licence for VMSHD (although it won't include the facility to upgrade)

I got Vegas Pro 8 and I upgraded to Pro 9. I am under the impression is that you must have a Pro version to upgrade to the next pro version. If in fact you can upgrade from a movie studio to Pro version. I retract my above statement.

I did it myself with a previous version. Specifically Vegas Movie Studio Platinim v6 to Vegas 7 (before it was called Pro) Others have done it since.
