I wonder if anyone can help me.

I'm doing a starter project making a brief instruction film and a friend shot some footage for me on a hired Sony DSR-PD170 using the DVCAM format, for me to pick up on the editing.

I have a borrowed Samsung VP-D93 and wonder if I can use it to download the footage onto Sony Vegas 8.0.

Or will I have to find a suitable Sony device?

I'm afraid you'll need a DVCAM camera or deck. It runs 50% faster than MiniDV.
