Help with Visual Studio 8

I am trying out the above program. It seems OK (I was trialing Premier Pro but of course can't afford to buy it), but I can't seem to find out how to add video clips to the timeline without them snapping to the end of the previous clip. I need to be able to position clips where I choose not where Ulead wants me to put them.

Does anyone know if this is possible? It seems silly that it couldn't do that, especially seeing that you can position clips where you like them on the overlay track.

Do you mean Ulead Video Studio?

If so then ULead default to snapping clips together. I suspect that they do this on their budget package to prevent users from having gaps between clips.

Of course if you do want gaps between clips then simply insert a solid colour image (EG Black). You can, of course swap/move clips aroung the timeline (and Storyboiard view) quite freely, but only within the overall project duration, and clips will always snap together.

If you meant Ulead Mediastudio then you can place clips wherever you want.

Thanks for your response. It's sad that this program can't do this. I like to edit clips to music and I need too freely place clips to match them into events in the music. I then fill in the gaps with other short sections or slow down preceding clips and so on. Premier was wonderful for doing this.

I guess I won't be buying this program!

Yes it is one of the contraints of most budget packages. You could also try Ulead Mediastudio Pro trial from http://www.ulead.co.uk/msp/trial.htm. Good luck with whatever you decide.
