Thread: Imported video is half height.

Hi forum peeps.

I've got a problem with my Sony Vegas Movie Studio Platinum 8.0d. I had the trial version 9.0 but wasn't getting the problem with that.

My imported videos are half the height they should be. They are squashed down in size in both the preview window and the time line.

The videos play fine in any media player i've viewed them in, its only in Vegas that they are displayed at half the size.
The videos in question were recorded from a Blackmagic Intensity Pro capture card. I'm running Windows Vista Home Premium SP2.

Cannot say I have ever seen any posts showing half height video in the Time Line, that normally shows the the video as it is.

I the preview there can be the odd problem.

Here is the same video in my other video editing program Ulead Video Studio. I'm going to reinstall version 9.0 of Vegas and see if its the same.

Ok, i've even un-installed and re-installed version 8 and its still the same.

I'm thinking of sending it back to Amazon. If they'll take it back, i'll get version 9.

I had a closer look at your JPG and I notice that is that Plat 9 is
1280x720x32 25p (works OK)

where as the Plat 8 is
1280x720x32 29.997p (half frame)

so perhaps your project is set incorrectly and should be set to 25p and NOT 29.997p

Try that and let us know.

The good new: You were right about the frame rate, Vegas 8 was at 29.9p and Vegas 9 was at 25p.
The bad news: I changed the project settings so they both matched (Vegas 9's settings) and the video was still squashed by half height.

Also, if you look at both the above images, the same video (capture_25.avi) has the same size and date, but have different codec's. In Vegas 8, its 'Sony Motion JPEG' but in Vegas 9, its 'Blackmagic 8 bit MJPEG' (it was captured with the blackmagic). Do you think this will have anything to do with my problem?

I've checked and unchecked both 'Ignore third party DV codecs' and 'Use Microsoft codecs' in the Options>Prefences menu, but either the video part of the file does not load (only the audio) or no change takes place.

I've got 24 days left on my Vegas 9 Trial anyway.

Problem solved!

Although i can't pinpoint a solution to my fix, i can say it *was* a codec fault. I installed a codec pack called 'K-lite codec pack' (lots of codecs in a collection)

and Vegas 8 now displays the video normally! Also it now says 'Blackmagic 8 bit MJPEG' in Vegas 8 which is correct.
