Sony Vegas and Media Studio Yep, I know they're not related, but they both fall in the Premiere Alternative bracket in my humble opinion! Post here for Ulead Media Studio or Vegas video problems or pointers...

Question Sony Vegas 7 Subtitle Problems..

Hello! I'm getting used to Vegas 7, and I know some stuff, but one problem keeps bugging me. Whenever I put a subtitle to a video clip in Vegas it goes transparent when I set the color of the letters to black. The darker I go, the more transparent the letters get. Red is mildly transparent, along with blue and green, but black is 100% transparent. It's quite irritating. If anyone knows how to fix this problem, it will be very helpful to me and I would greatly appreciate it!

Also the same case goes with the noise textures. (i.e. puffy clouds, soft clouds, lava, plasma, etc.) The darker, the more transparent. I could really use some help!

~Thanks!

Check the compositing mode for the track with the text/gen med is set to "Source Alpha" (this is one of the small green icons in the track header - left hand end of the track on the timeline)

EDIT: And check the composition level (the slider thing) is set to 100%

The track with the subtitle is set to "Source Alpha" and the slider next to it is set all the way to 100%.

The track with the video is set to "Add" and the slider is at 100% as well.

Still the black subtitles are transparent..

Oh, and I used "Default Text" as my subtitles.

Compositing mode - 'mask'.

Everything 100% white should be transparent, 100% black will be opaque, other colours translucent.

If all you want is opaque black text that should do it.

If you want other colours to be transparent / opaque - use the chroma key tool to make the back ground colour only transparent.

I don't want any of the text's colors to be transparent. I want black subtitles but it won't work!

Really could do with some screen shots. Something is not set right and you're not telling us.........
What happens if you start a new project from scratch.
Just stick some video on track 2 and do a simple text overlay on track 1.
