Sony Vegas and Media Studio Yep, I know they're not related, but they both fall in the Premiere Alternative bracket in my humble opinion! Post here for Ulead Media Studio or Vegas video problems or pointers...

Default Can't edit .avi files

Yea i can't edit all the .avi files i have.
Do i need a codec of some sort? which?

When i import the file i only get the soundtrack. This happens to me with all my videoeditingprograms btw.

Also, i'm on vista.

Whichever one was used to compress the video.

This is one of the top 5 most commonly asked questions. And hence one of the top five most commenly answered questions.

Get GSport (free) - that'll tell you what codec you need.

Read all the other threads here about codecs and all the codec packs you can download.

But better still. Film your own films on your own camera and load the software that came with it (if any). this will ensure all the codecs you need are installed.

I have been filming my own stuff with no problems.
But now i want to play around with some great premade footage.

That's great. But you need to know what you're dealing with and GSpot will give you that info.
