Sony Vegas and Media Studio Yep, I know they're not related, but they both fall in the Premiere Alternative bracket in my humble opinion! Post here for Ulead Media Studio or Vegas video problems or pointers...

Default Sony Vegas Pro 8 - 1680x1050 Rendering

Hi there,

I'm currently having a filesize issue when rendering in Sony Vegas Pro 8. At the moment i'm rendering in a resolution of 1680x1050 which is fine if my films are below 10mins, but i have just made one that is 18mins long and the file size is just above 700mb. I was wondering if there are any tweaks, settings or anything else that i can do to keep down the file size to around 500mb? I would like to keep the resolution as it is but the sharpness of the video is also important.

My settings at the moment are:

Render Quality: Good
Format: WMV 9
Mode: CBR
FPS: 30
Video Sharpness: 90
Bitrate: 6M

Any help is appreciated, thanks.

With compressed video the res is far less important than the bit rate.

Bit rate defines quality. There is no way to escape from the fact that quality costs in high file sizes.

Only you can judge this.

However I note you are rendering in ' good ' - use best, it is better - lols.

Dont use a highly compressed format unless you MUST - I presume this is for net casting - if it isnt then render it as a less compressed format - DV or HDV.

I'm having some troubles with it, to be honest. I've tested alot of stuff but yeah..

This goes to anyone:

How would you render an 18 minute film at 1680x1050 but still maintain at least some quality, keeping the file size as low as possible? :p

try using a VBR rate instead of Constant, that might take it down a bit...
