I have a sneaking suspicion that Tim's idea to COMPLETELY remove Norton Antivirus from my computer might be a good idea. So I'll try that tonight.
Last night, the program performed as poorly as it ever has. This in contrast to the night before where I felt I was finally making progress. This Dr. Jeckle/Mr. Hyde behavior makes it especially difficult to troubleshoot the issue, since you "think" you're onto something, only to find the program crashing uncontrollably the next time you log-on.
I did finally do a general web search on "mcmpgvdec.dll"......good grief lots of people are having this same problem with Vegas Movie Studio! Sadly, I have yet to see anyone reporting a fix

Wish I had googled this program BEFORE purchasing it.
Sony is still engaged with me at this point, so I'll give them the benifit of the doubt for now. Currently, they suggest I follow a link and download an "update", but the update appears to be version 9.0 Platinum Edition. Not sure that will work any better. ....the saga continues
