Sony Vegas and Media Studio Yep, I know they're not related, but they both fall in the Premiere Alternative bracket in my humble opinion! Post here for Ulead Media Studio or Vegas video problems or pointers...

Thumbs up results as of November 20, 2008

Hey folks.... I'm posting my results from the diagnostic procedures provided by Sony Technical Support, in hopes that doing so will help others who may stumble upon this same problem in the future. .....I'm making some progress....

Eric/Technical Support Staff,

...I followed the instructions last night and did have some success. Ultimately, I was able to open my Vegas Movie Studio 9.0 program, get into my current project and actually do some editing for almost 30 minutes before the program crashed again. I then reopened the program and worked for another 20 minutes or so before the program crashed once again. So...we are making progress!
Here to fore, I have not been able to do much of ANYthing before losing the program.

My hope is that if I provide you with specifics that I observed while following your diagnostic procedures, we can identify the remaining
issue(s):

While removing programs from the "Processes Tab" in the Task Manager box, there was one process that would not delete, even though I followed the same procedure as with the others (highlighting the process name, then hitting the "End Process" button). The process in question is titled Navapsvc.exe Also, there were four additional processes listed on your "do not end" list above that did not appear on my list. They are: alg.exe, ccmexec.exe, MsPMSPSv.exe and wmiprvse.exe (not sure if this matters).

Additionally, now when the program crashes, I am not getting an error box, it simply disappears from my monitor without warning.

I have not yet reversed ANY of the above diagnostic procedures as I want to first make sure the program is working flawlessly before reintroducing each process, one-at-a-time, as you suggest.

Any other suggestions would be greatly appreciated!

Thanks for the heads-up Tim, I'll do some digging tonight when I get home
and see if that's the culprit.

Yea - norton - the antivirus program that is more annoying than a virus.

People do say it can screw with your system.

I have a sneaking suspicion that Tim's idea to COMPLETELY remove Norton Antivirus from my computer might be a good idea. So I'll try that tonight.

Last night, the program performed as poorly as it ever has. This in contrast to the night before where I felt I was finally making progress. This Dr. Jeckle/Mr. Hyde behavior makes it especially difficult to troubleshoot the issue, since you "think" you're onto something, only to find the program crashing uncontrollably the next time you log-on.

I did finally do a general web search on "mcmpgvdec.dll"......good grief lots of people are having this same problem with Vegas Movie Studio! Sadly, I have yet to see anyone reporting a fix Wish I had googled this program BEFORE purchasing it.

Sony is still engaged with me at this point, so I'll give them the benifit of the doubt for now. Currently, they suggest I follow a link and download an "update", but the update appears to be version 9.0 Platinum Edition. Not sure that will work any better. ....the saga continues

Default RESOLUTION (i think)

Hey all...

I wanted to bring some closure to this thread in case anyone has the same problem I had.

I downloaded the lateset upgrade to Sony Vegas Movie Studio 9.0 (which is 9.0b). The release date for this update was in October of 2008. So far I have not had a single problem and I am up and running again on my most recent project. Thanks to all for the time and effort, I very much appreciate all the help!

I'll be sure to keep the forum posted if the ugly crashing problem returns. But for now, so far.... so good.

I am experiencing the same problem. When the time line reaches around 15 mins, my mem Usage shoots up to 790,000 k. Adding an extra one or two events leads to crashing.

I have a movie to edit and I still have a second half to do.

I was planning to edit the second half under another project and eventually mix them together. It does not seem to work.

I have read the forum and I just want to know if there is a way out.

Thank you
Zoulou

Yes. It's a free recommended download.
