Sony Vegas and Media Studio Yep, I know they're not related, but they both fall in the Premiere Alternative bracket in my humble opinion! Post here for Ulead Media Studio or Vegas video problems or pointers...

I may be positing a totally dumb question here, but, can MP3 render/support 5.1?

When you have rendered to MP3, successfully, do you actually get 5.1 audio?

I am asking this 'cos when I set up a test Veg, and I am looking at the MP3 templates within Vegas and I don't see 5.1 mapping rendering as an option.

Conversely, I DO see 5.1 mapping when I set the for WAV render and I DO see 5.1 as part of the AC-3 options for preparation for DVDA. Note that: for DVDA preparation!

Again, have you had any previous success with 5.1 surround in/from a MP3 render session?

Now try and create an AC-3 or WAV of your 5.1 setup, and play that. Do you have a 5.1 hardware setup to support 5.1 output?

My thoughts are these - until I know read otherwise:

1] Does MP3 support 5.1 surround?

2] Maybe what you ARE hearing in your project are the stereo renders that MP3 have, at a minimum, been able to produce.

3] Your 5.1 surround panning settings aren't the same for the first section as they are for the second section. Do look very carefully. And maybe, maybe this has thrown us a red herring?

4] Do you have 5.1 surround sound card and loudspeaker setups?

5] And here is my conclusion: If any 2 of these "reasons" for NOT hearing MP3 renders are proved, then what we have is a false positive. Meaning, (my words not yours): ' . .. why is it I can't do "B" when I can do "A" '?

Interesting

Still waiting for a response. I'd like to tidy this one up and move on.

Cheers

I think the answer is yes Grazie. However, Vegas doesn't support rendering it, only standard MP3. (So far)

Thanks Andy! - One lives . . and one learns - hopefully.

So, maybe that is why our chum is wanting to do this exo-Vegas and NOT being able to do this from within Vegas is why he is pursuing this through Frameserver. Understood.

But this still does not answer why he can't render a straight AVI with 5.1 surround - if that is what I understand him saying? He has tried and not getting it to happen. Preview -yes. Render no!

I still want our friend to access a 5.1 render for his sound. At the moment he is shipping this through Frameserver out to >>>>> yeah?

Grazie

Well, when I want a 5.1 track for DVD, my workflow is to render video to AVI, and then a final render to DVDA compatible MPEG2 along with a separate AC.3 audio. I've had use for 7.1 WAV's before for another application that demanded WAVs exclusively, but for that I used Adobe Audition.
