This is really pointing towards a fat32 rather than a NTSC HD. I know you said NTSC, but this has all the trade marks of fat32. Sorry. Whatever is "telling" you it is NTSC needs to be carefully investigated.

Yeah, but it does, doesn't it Tim? I'm trying to remember, but I would get ONE avi file registering within VideoFactory but have 2 or more 4gb files "chained"? Was that right?

Sure got me beat. I've been in computers since punched cards (I remember one particular "educational film" which contained the somewhat inaccurate line Computers store data as a series of holes in magnetic tape, but I digress) but only in DV for a couple of years.
