Grazie (et al) I don't think it's possible not to create the loop region. Start up a new project and it's there. It maybe at the far left ofthe timeline and duration "0", but it's there. Actually I think it sits just "before" the first frame as you can't loop it and play it, or indeed do anything at all with it.
