| |  'Movement' in the video - what causes this?
I am a beginner with Vegas and have just finished my first mini-project.
However, when the DVD is viewed there is loads of 'movement' on parts - see for example the brickwork on the church.
This happens throughout the clip.
I would like to ask the experts what causes this and what am I doing wrong?

Looks a lot like compression artifacts to me. Try a higher bitrate, ensure you use multiple passes and deinterlace for optimum pc viewing. |

The avi file that I used was rendered as PAL DV Widescreen in Vegas Pro8 and the details were:
Audio: 48,000 Hz, 16 Bit, Stereo, PCM Uncompressed.
Video: 25 fps, 720x576, Lower field first.
Pixel Aspect Ratio: 1.457. OpenDML compatible.
Widescreen PAL DV video files compatible with Sony Video Capture.
As a first step to fixing the problem is this ok?

Are you saying your DVD images suffer (rather than just the WMV version). It looks to me like "strobing" which even broadcast suffers from - stripy shirts and ties are often a problem and presenters have to be careful what they wear.

Yes, it's on the TV too. I have just played the avi and it's perfect.
So is there nothing I can do (I am not doing anything incorrectly)?

Just a quick recap....
A DV AVI render out plays and looks fine on your PC?
But both WMV (Web) and MPEG2 (DVD) have these artifacts?
Did you follow Marc's suggestion to up the bitrate and a do a multi-pass encode? - For the web de-interlace.
I have had similar problems before (not yet with Vegas). I ended up dumping out the timeline from the app in question to uncompressed a/v and then re-encoding that.
What are your encoding steps? |

I also noticed that when I used architect to prepare and burn dvd is was set at NSTC so have changed to PAL Widescreen. Looks better - but still 'movement' although not as bad. |

How you got from A to B because you've already noted and fixed one issue (NTSC instead of PAL). |

Audio: 64 Kbps, 44,100 Hz, 16 Bit, Stereo.
