Exclamation HELP! File Format

hiya im making a video on Sony Vegas 8 but everytime i try and open a clip it says
"An error has occured the file is an unsupported format"
the file is an mpg. file i was thinking can files be chanaged to a different format to open them can someone plz help!

I suspect you mean the file has an extension of mpg. Which is not a format. Most likely the file is of one of a few mpeg formats (although it could be an Excel spreadsheet that some wag has renamed).
Welcome to the wacky world of codecs!
Download GSpot (google it - it's free) and load you file into it. This will tell you much more about the file. It would also be useful if you posted the source of your file.

hiya thnks
i downloaded sony vegas 7 now and i try to put a file into the timeline but it says

\VTS_01 (26).mpg could not be opened.
what dus that mean

here is some more info bout the file

Name: VTS_01 (23).mpg
Type: MPG File


can anyone plz help cuz i cant make any videos without tghe clips
