I'm kinda new to all this so your help is greatly appreciated. Just prior to burning a disc I have choices to save my project as a "DVD" , saves as VOB file, and also option to save as "Disc Image" and get ISO file type. I have been saving as both types. As a result this has been taking up a lot of hard drive space. Can someone tell me the difference between the two and if I truely need both types saved? I would like to make additional copies of some discs at a later date. Thanks Much!!
No, you're duplicating your output there . The ISO image is essentially a file that contains all the info to burn a disc directly - in Nero for example, you can just burn an image with a few clicks. So rather than drag and drop the files created by "DVD" (Vobs etc) into a new DVD, you just burn the ISO.
The ISO is a neater way of packaging your files. If you ever need to get at the files in the image, just unpack with ISObuster.
So there is no preference as far as quality or anything? I currently have two folders containing the same projects (VOB, ISO files). Each is 17 Gigs! and I'd like to lose one of them. So you reccomend keeping ISO file?
I meant I had several projects saved in both file formats. So I was looking to dump one of the formats and save myself 17 gigs of space.. Looks like I will save the ISO file format and lose the VOB files. Thanks for the quick response!
