Sony Vegas and Media Studio Yep, I know they're not related, but they both fall in the Premiere Alternative bracket in my humble opinion! Post here for Ulead Media Studio or Vegas video problems or pointers...

Default DVD Editing - "Smoothness" Issues (MSP7)

Hi there!

I have a DVD I needed to remove some scenes from.

So far, I've:

1) copied the VOBs to my hard drive with Smart Ripper 2.41
2) created MPGs with Womble Mpeg Video Wizard
3) edited scenes with Media Studio Pro 7

Now. The source from steps 1 and 2 both have smooth-scrolling end credits. The exported result from MSP 7 does not.

I've created a new movie, moving an object along a moving path and confirmed: MSP7 is indeed capable of rendering smooth video. However, with my edited file, it's exporting very jerky video which is the most obvious at the end credits.

I'd rather not hear "well MSP7 is garbage, I recommend [x] instead" - believe me, I've tried others. They either can't import VOBs, can't work with MPGs, or export poor quality video.

The source files from steps 1 and 2 are both 29.97 fps; I believe they're both interlaced as well.

Any tips based on previous experience would be greatly appreciated!

MSP7 certainly is not garbage. In fact it is a very good NLE.

Sounds like dropped frames to me. Try,

1. Clear all TEMP files

2. If you are using a second hard drive then render to that. Also point your temporary working space to the second hard drive if you have one

3. Defrag all hard drives

4. Re-render your movie

5. Good luck

Thanks for the quick reply!

The files are all on a brand-new drive, so fragmentation shouldn't be an issue at this point, but I'll give it a try. It is my fastest drive (SATA2) so I'm also using it for the temporary drive; I'll try changing the options and see if that has any effect.
