Sony Vegas and Media Studio Yep, I know they're not related, but they both fall in the Premiere Alternative bracket in my humble opinion! Post here for Ulead Media Studio or Vegas video problems or pointers...

Default Movie Studio 8...or Platinum 8

Hello...

Used Sony Vegas Movie Studio...(v6)...in the past; & was wondering...what would be the advantage of going w/ Platinum8 over 8?

I only started editing movies this year...(& I'm a quick study)...but in looking at the features of both (at BestBuy...where 8 is on sale for $50), I'm not sure what advantages in Platinum would justify jumping to $130.

Thanks,

mark4man

What have you got against downloading a demo of it and trying it out? What ever we might say would not assist you other than giving our own p.o.v.? In downloading the demo you could experience at first hand and get your own ideas on it.

Also there is a comparison table for you to check out what each of the Vegas family can do.

Grazie

If you want to use HDV you HAVE to get premium.
If you want to use (read only) AVCHD you HAVE to use premium.
I think the Primary colour corrector is an important tool
Loads of New Blue video effecrts in premium (which wouldn't particularly interest me but I realise your view may differ)

right now...I'm primarily only interested in creating videos for the web.

Thanks (& no apology necessary).

Well, it still boils down to
(a) whether your source footage is Hi Def or not (if it is you'll need premium OR some otherway of down-converting your footage to a format VMS8 will undertsand)
(b) whether you want to use the excellent primary colour corrector (although the same can be achieved with a lot of hard work using levels etc - or so I believe)
(c) whether the New Blue effects are likely to be of use to you.
(d) whether you want to use Dolby (ac3) files - which you won't for the web so ignore (d)
The ability to output a format suitable for the web is IDENTICAL in both versions.
