Default Won't Preview

I've just installed version 8, and I'm totally new to Sony Vegas Studio. When I preview the clip I've imported to the time line, all is it shows is black, and no auidio. Pleas help, thanks.

What media are you trying to import to the timeline?

And do you see anything on the timeline. If it is video with sound you should see two events, one video and one audio.

Well I've tried multiple formats, some notable .mov .wmv and more. I think I may just give in and get Ulead Video Studio looks much better.
