Sounds like a codec problem. Many compact record to sd card type cameras use odd variations of codecs. TBH these cameras are not really the best thing to produce editable stuff on.
Vegas is very good at editing weird formats / codecs but it isnt really what it is designed for. The 'pro' in the title means that it is optimised for formats such as DV. HDV, XDCAM and so on.
You have spent more on your editor than your camera when perhaps the other way rounbd would be better (sorry) .
There may be a work around. Try using a program such as 'super c' to convert the camera output to a DV file.
That should be much smoother to edit on.
