Sony Vegas and Media Studio Yep, I know they're not related, but they both fall in the Premiere Alternative bracket in my humble opinion! Post here for Ulead Media Studio or Vegas video problems or pointers...

Default Vegas 8 audio lag

Hi there

I am very fresh to this and am pretty much stuck. I am using vegas pro 8 (because premiere for some reason crashes my machine as it loads) and all the clips have misaligned sound (the sound lags substantially behind the video) I wonder if I have made some simple error? The tracks have aligned sound if played through say quicktime pro prior to renaming them in vegas.

I am using a sanyo xacti recording in MP4 and transferring to a windows xp machine...

Any thoughts very welcome as at present I am unable to edit at all(!)

Sounds like a codec problem. Many compact record to sd card type cameras use odd variations of codecs. TBH these cameras are not really the best thing to produce editable stuff on.

Vegas is very good at editing weird formats / codecs but it isnt really what it is designed for. The 'pro' in the title means that it is optimised for formats such as DV. HDV, XDCAM and so on.

You have spent more on your editor than your camera when perhaps the other way rounbd would be better (sorry) .

There may be a work around. Try using a program such as 'super c' to convert the camera output to a DV file.

That should be much smoother to edit on.

Default super c...

Great, thanks Mark

Tell me when you say convert to DV do you mean to avi? Cause I have a little freebie that will do that. I only wanted a very basic camera to splice together films of the kids for my own amusement. This is the second camera already (I tried a dvd machine which just said disk error every 5 mins!)
