Hello.
I have Sony Vegas Platinum 8 and I just started using it.
I can't see the preview, I see the preview window but the video doesn't show, I see only a black background.
What can I do?

Firstly, my sincere apologies if I'm being a bit basic here, but we've absolutely no idea, based on your one post to this forum of your level of experience with Vegas, NLEs in general or computer software in general.
So, lets start with the basics.
Have you put some video on the timeline?
Do thumbnails of your video appear on the timeline?
Is your timeline cursor over part of that video (the preview windows shows what's under the timeline cursor)?

Sorry for not being more clear.
I have no experience with Vegas but I have with computer software.
I put a video on the timeline but I see no thumbnails and I see no video on the timeline or in the preview.

It sounds like you don't have the correct codec installed on your pc. Go download the free app called G Spot, no really its a program, After you download it, open it and find your video file it will then tell you what kind of file it is. Then do a search for the codec used and download and install it. Post back if you have more trouble.
