Sony Vegas and Media Studio Yep, I know they're not related, but they both fall in the Premiere Alternative bracket in my humble opinion! Post here for Ulead Media Studio or Vegas video problems or pointers...

Default Question about lighting

Hey all,

I'm in the process of shooting an instructional DVD in a woodworking shop. All the action is mostly happening around the table saw but I need to stand quite far from the saw to get a good overall view of the scene. My first session didn't turn out so well. I think I don't have enough light (3x 250W lights on tripod).

My budget is also limited and can't afford those fancy light box costing 1000$ each. Renting can be an option but each shoot is done out of town and I'm gone for 1 week each time. I'm a little concerned I'll end up paying too much to keep them so long.

As a possible solution, I was wondering what kind of results I could expect from using some powerful halogen lights on stand (http://www.amazon.com/Designers-Edge...dp/B000E8X4EC). The same type they use in construction. I'm not sure about the color temperature of those lights but I was thinking of using them obviously not pointing directly at the scene but more to light up the place (bouncing off the ceiling / walls).

I would be curious to know if it's a route you would advise.

Thanks for your help!

Benoit

I use work lights all the time, There cheap ($30) and work great, Also find a dimmer switch to adjust the brightness.

Yes I use site lights too - not so controllable as red heads et al but a zillionth the price and they use the same bulbs anyway (I think).

For bran doors / filters / scrim just improvise. Bouncing off walls or reflectors will soften harsh shadows.

Clour temp is tungsten - same as pricey proper halogen jobs.

Hi,

I'm using a Canon XH-A1. It's a great cam and just want to make sure I honor its capabilities.

Thanks for helping!
