Sony Vegas and Media Studio Yep, I know they're not related, but they both fall in the Premiere Alternative bracket in my humble opinion! Post here for Ulead Media Studio or Vegas video problems or pointers...

Yes - search for the codec you want, download, install. Job done.

There are codec packs, nemo is often used, these install a 100 or so codecs. Sounds good but some systems develope problems with all these codecs.

I think it is best only to install those you need.

Having said that i installed the nimo pack and all seems well for me.

ha - I am no teccy expert when it comes to computers, but if some media wont show on the timeline then you need that codec.

Next you need to 'sniff' the media file to see what codecs it is using; install and use a free and excellent little app called 'g spot'. That will tell you.

Its most likely the "directshow" codec. Vegas is not compatible with it due to stability issues, its a pretty flaky codec. Try to convert it in virtualdub and it should work.
