Wondered if anyone here might know what the hell this means.
When I try an import, drag-and-drop, or whatever, a video file of any format into Vegas, I pretty much ALWAYS get this error message, followed by the automatic crashing and closing of the program...
"An error occurred during the current operation. An Exception has occurred."
I would post the long list of details Vegas gives me the option of viewing during the crash, but this forum isn't allowing me to post them.
Anyway... As you can imagine, this little complication is making work a little difficult, so if anyone could help out, it would be most appreciated!

Sounds nasty - I have never had this from vegas 4 all the way to 7.
I would try reinstalling vegas, if it is still the same then sony customer services may be your best bet - faulty disc maybe.
Perhaps install your original disc in another pc and see if that works, to isolate the problem, disc or pc.

Nope - Works fine unless I want to import a media file...

Well, I am using Vista... Is this likely to cause such a problem?

The sony system requirements page does not mention vista. That is your problem I suspect. Try googling to see if people have run vegas on vista, but i should think that if sony dont list it then that is the probelm. Sony Creative Software - Vegas+DVD Production Suite - System Requirements
Does vista have a XP emulation mode?

Vista does have an XP emulation mode, but as expected, doesn't make any difference.
Does it matter that the video I am trying to import into Vegas is nearly 4GB?

Hey, whats up !
Remember when you are making a video, all files that you have open in the project media need a space in the memory.
Check you memory, Because may be your running out of memory.
Best Regards

4 gig should be fine.
I just checked by importing a 10 gig video file, no problem.

I upped the maximum amount of available dynamic RAM in Vegas to 1024 MB, but it hasn't made much difference... And I can't go any higher.
Any other suggestions, guys? Because it's really starting to nark me off...
Could it have something to do with the fact that I work off a portable hard drive?
