0 Videos nominated Video Of the Month(s): 0 | | 'Failed to Build a Preview Graph' message when capturing
Hi,
Sometimes when trying to capture in Mediastudio 7 I get this message 'Failed to build preview graph' and the program then shuts down. I have successfully captured before, but now the program crashes.
Any ideas about what's going on?

Are you "doing" analogue or firewire capture?

In addition to the information that MArc has asked for, could you also post the following,
1. What capture plug-in are you using?
2. Broad outline of your system spec (Processor, Disks & Memory)
3. Capture method (Single File, Bacth, Tape Scan)
Thanks

I'm capturing using an OHCI firewire card made by 'SYBA'.
I'm using the Ulead DSW MPEG Capture Plug-in, and also get the same message when using the Windows Media Format Plug-in
I'm trying to capture using the single file method on Auto with no time limit.
PC specs:
Pentium 4
2.53GHz 512 MB RAM
120 Gig HD

There can be several reasons for Failure to build a Preview graph. The most common reason is when Mediastudio (and other ULead products) encounter a file format it did not expect.
Before we examine too many of these reasons can you check that your setup (for Mpeg) in Mediastudio capture tool is as follows,
1. 'Setup > Device Control ...' is set to MS 1394 Device Control'
2. 'Setup > Switch Capture Plug-in ...' is set to ULead DSW Mpeg Capture plug-in'
3. 'Capture > Capture Template Manager ...' is set to DVD PAL (or DVD NTSC if you are in North America)
4. 'Setup > Video Capture Property Settings > Video Format' radio button is set to DVD.
I have just checked this set up on my own PC and had no problems capturing MPEG.
If the above does not work, then the source of your problem is more obscure. For example have you added any hardware devices recently? I have heard of this type of problem due to IRQ conflicts.
I have also heard of the error reported when the PC is low on resources. Having said that, if I can capture MPEG on the monstrosity described below, then you should have no problems with your PC. (Oddly enough it is because of the antiquity of my own PC that I prefer to capture in lossless DV AVI and encode to MPEG2 for DVD later).
Please check out the above and post back.
Thanks

Just noticed when re-reading this. I'm trying to capture using the single file method on Auto with no time limit. |
It is also worth checking that you have no breaks in your time code. I have read other instances of capture failures due to breaks in the time code. You can eliminate, or confirm, this possibility by trying a very short capture on an area of tape where you know the timecode is continuous.
Sorry about missing that first time round (especially after me asking for the info in the first place).
Good luck, post back and let us know how you got on.

I set everything as you suggested but now I get the message
'V129:Invalid video aspect ratio/display horizontal size (720) combination for DVD, display size should be 540. Cannot set MPEG parameters error'
I'll keep trying...

You will have to install the Mpeg Vio Driver Update Patch from the bottom of http://www.ulead.com/tech/msp/msp_ftp.htm
Also if you have not already done so you should download and install 7.01 update patch from the same link.
Alternatively visit Ulead's Japanese site and check out the updates and patches from there. http://www.ulead.co.jp/msp/runme.htm
Hope this resolves your problem.
Good luck!
