| | Indeed another satisfied forum member. Quite a tricky one that. I suppose the lesson is, always check for update patches once you start using software.

| | I am using a Dazzle Hollywood Bridge to capture direct-to-disk from an analogue Sony DXC-3000 camera to a Cappuccino TX3 mini-book computer using MSP7.2 and XP Pro SP2 (DX9). I get a 'failure to build preview graph' message every time I stop capturing, and MSP severs it's connection with the Dazzle. This also happens if I capture to my desktop that has the same OS and software installed, but if I capture to my laptop (MSP7.1, XP Pro SP1 and DX it works perfectly with no error messages or severed connections. Other capture apps. work perfectly on all my computers, but I would prefer to use MSP because it is easier to see on my 7" touchscreen display.
Please can anyone help? |

| | Unfortunately I do not capture using analogue myself, but there are a few things worth checking. But first a couple of questions,
1. What capture plugin are you using?
2. What capture method are you using (Batch or single video)?
3. What device have you selected ( Setup > Device control ..)
Some possibilities,
1. Are there any device/driver updates for the Dazzle Hardware? Try here http://www.pinnaclesys.com/docsuppor...me=&page_id=62
2. Do the options under Setup > Device Control allow for adjustment pf the preroll and record times? If so it may be worth while adjusting these.
Please post back and I will do a little digging meantime.

| | Thanks for your quick reply.
1. Ulead Direct Show Plug-in.
2. Single video capture.
3. Device Control MS1394. Unknown MSDV (although there is obviously no control of the Dazzle)
These settings are the same whether I have installed the software from the cd that came with Dazzle or not. All the disk seems to do is change the codec to DVSoft(TM), which is more trouble than it is worth!
I have tried finding some support for the Hollywood Bridge, but Dazzle, MainConcept and Pinnacle are trying to wash their hands of the product.
I have tried changing the times, as you suggested, but it is difficult to know whether to go up or down, and it hasn't made any difference so far.
I think it must have something to do with SP2 and/or DX9 because everything works fine on my laptop with SP1 and DX8. If all else fails I could use this setup on the mini-book. :( |

I suspect you are right, that this is a SP2/Directx conflict. ULead do suggest trying to diable directx for another problem, Quote:
Some users reported a problem, where AP may hang at 85% initialization. This update will resolve that issue. However, if your PC has installed some unknown DirectX audio filters, you may still encounter this problem. You can manually change a setting to avoid the conflict. Check bellow setting to disable DirectX Audio :
Under system drive:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\Ulead Systems\Ulead MediaStudio Pro\7.0\msp.ini, change the setting to 1.
[DXAudMgr]
DisableDXAudio = 1
However, this will cause DirectX manager and its audio filters not to load into Production library of VE
| You could always try it and see. Otherwise the only thing I can suggest is to reprot it to Ulead Support at their website. Meantime I will keep digging.

| | Strange, but I could not find those lines or any reference to dxaudio in msp.ini, perhaps 7.02 has got rid of them.
I read somewhere that there is a patch for dx9. I am trying to find it at the moment. Do you know how to get rid of version 9 and return to a previous version? and will SP2 still work ok if I do this.
I will try and contact Ulead, I cannot believe I am the only person to suffer this problem.
Can you suggest a good quality capture app that has a large enough interface to use on a small screen? I like Scenalyzer, but the icons etc. would become unreadable on my monitor. MainActor is ok, but it does not report any dropped frames or hd space left. |

| | Thank you both for your replies.
Movie Maker (I do the sign of the cross with my fingers!) does not even acknowledge the Dazzle exists! A bit of a non-starter really.
I tried DVIO today, and it is perfectly simple (it downloaded so fast I thought it hadn't). The only trouble is that it does not auto name/number following capture files which is essential on location. However, through looking for DVIO I discovered WinDV which is truly astonishing, and I advise everyone to try it. It even datestamps every clip, and because you only pause between each capture the Dazzle is always communicating with the pc. Capture files are never bigger than 2gig which I used to think was a pain, but now realise it helps with the defragmentation process and compatibility with Macs. The only drawback of WinDV is that the capture/record button is adjacent to the Cancel button which, if you press accidentally, causes all manner of chaos and heartache!
It looks like I will be putting Ulead Vid Capture out to pasture now that I have WinDV, but if anyone comes up with a cure it will be greatly appreciated.
Does anyone know where to get a micro mini PS2 keyboard, also a 6  inch 6pin-6pin firewire cable? |

| | Your local PC world (or any online PC supplier for cheaper!) will sell the 6pin to 6pin firewire cable.
I know Maplins used to sell the mini cherry keyboard. Dabs do a range of the cherry minis (example quicklinx at dabs: G5RWS)
Or take a look at these: http://shopping.kelkoo.co.uk/b/a/ss_mini_keyboards.html | | Thread Tools | | | | Display Modes | Linear Mode |
