Sony Vegas and Media Studio Yep, I know they're not related, but they both fall in the Premiere Alternative bracket in my humble opinion! Post here for Ulead Media Studio or Vegas video problems or pointers...

Default How do I edit Part of a DVD in Vegas?

Yes....I know this is "documented" all over the flipping internet. I've spent like 2 days trying to figure out how to do this and I'm tired and annoyed.

Can somebody please explain how I can edit a VOB file in Vegas?

Please be specific and name the programs you use. There are a billion DVD2MPEG converters out there and I think that every single one of them sucks.

I want to know EXACTLY how somebody else would do this.

Thanks for helping a n00b out.

I simply copy the disc to my hard drive, then import the various VOB files onto the timeline. (Using Vegas 7 by the way)

Just for the heck if it, I tried to import a . vob file from my hd to Vegas 7 timeline, and Vegas 7 import doesn't seem to recognize vob.

What am I missing?

Make sure you HAVE a DVD in the tray, then:

File>Import>DVD Camcorder Disc

Curious to know why that method....

I suppose my question is really this... is there a reason I shouldn't do it my way? Always keen to learn!

That's why.

Plus our friend's earlier attempt with "other" software and getting a handle on the process. Nothing more .. and nothing less. Sure, rename the VOBs and so on. But why should I do this when Vegas will do this task for me?

Perhaps an introduction regarding the convention on VOBs and MPEGs would be timely?

Grazie

will also bring in the audio if it is AC3 as V7 will not entertain that file on the timeline

Thanks for this info.

Just to test this I tried it 2 ways:
1. Off a commercial DVD and it locked up.. probably because of the security coding.

2. I copied a tv show from DVR to DVD. Then imported from DVD to my HD using Vegas 7 . It created a series of .MPG's which I was able to drag onto the timeline.

Totally understood that it may solve the original problem.... but... what's the reason for it not working for him my way? Or, to put it another way.... why can I import directly to the timeline and he cannot?

I will be curious to see if the 'other' way worked for him.

Hope he posts with the result soon.
