Sony Vegas and Media Studio Yep, I know they're not related, but they both fall in the Premiere Alternative bracket in my humble opinion! Post here for Ulead Media Studio or Vegas video problems or pointers...

Default Help with capture, and opening files in Video Editor

Hi there,

I have Mediastudio Pro 7 and a Victor GR-DV3500 video camera. I want to capture, edit and then burn to DVD but things aren't going smoothly. Here's what's going on:

I can capture using the Ulead Directshow capture plug-in but I can't open this file in Video Editor - I get the message "Unable to open the file. 20213:2:2". I can play what I captured in Windows Media Player though.

When I try to capture using the Ulead DSW MPEG capture plug-in I get the message "Failed to build a preview graph".

Any help is greatly appreceated.

PC specs:
Pentium 4
2.53GHz 512 MB RAM
120 Gig HD

The error you are encountering is because you have used the 'File > Open' command to try and insert a video file. This command opens DVP (Digital Project Files) rather than video. To insert video onto the timeline try the following,

1. Launch Video Editor and from the 'File' menu select 'New'

2. From the dialogue box select 'DV xxxx' and click ok. (xxxx = NTSC for North America or PAL for Europe and Australasia)

3. From the 'Insert' menu select 'Video File ...' and use the dialogue box to locate your captured movie.

4. Drop the movie on track Va or Vb as required.

5. Repeat 3 and 4 as required

6. Enjoy

Happy editing.

Middle age does not arrive by itself!

Of course I meant to say that DVP stands for Digital Video Project.

Remember to save your project regularly. It is a DVP file that is created when you use 'File > Save'

Enjoy
