Sony Vegas and Media Studio Yep, I know they're not related, but they both fall in the Premiere Alternative bracket in my humble opinion! Post here for Ulead Media Studio or Vegas video problems or pointers...

How do you guys usually do it?
Yeah, that's what I do. I use the Multi-video uploader as well, the normal uploader doesn't work on my computer and you can upload videos up to 1GB.

Well, folks, here's something that really works and is really easy.

1. Render your video at 640x480. This is a common size, but actually you only need 480x360, but any resolution higher will work and since 640x480 is commonly used, use this for dimensions.

2. I've seen some how to vids about this that say you should render to DivX or H.264 for windows. I'm not sure that this is necessary, 'cause I rendered to WMV for my latest video and it worked fine.

3. After you've uploaded your video, PLEASE WAIT. In a hour or so after it becomes available, it will also be available at high quality. You will see a link at the bottom right hand corner of the vid that says Watch in High Quality. You can use it, but it doesn't quite cut it. Your video will look better, but it will not sound better.

Here's the kicker.
4. After the video shows the 'Watch in High Quality', you'll be able to do this and get superb results in both video and audio quality. Append &fmt=18 to the url shown in your browser's address bar. BINGO! You have excellent video and sound quality!

Try it! It works. It works on any video that shows the 'Watch in High Quality' link.

Here's my latest YouTube submission

YouTube - Glenn Miller's Chattanooga Choo Choo

Here it is with the appended code

YouTube - Glenn Miller's Chattanooga Choo Choo

Big difference eh? And the uploaded video was a WMV!

Great advice, Lengo, it worked for me. I wish I'd read the 'PLEASE WAIT' bit before deleting my first videos at this size though, then having to re-upload them.

I have a non-encoding question to ask about YouTube I thought I'd sneak in here.

How do you get the 'More From: Username' drop down option to be already dropped down when a viewer watches your video?
I assume the default option is for 'Related Videos' to be showing but I've seen some users who have their own videos on the down arrow, as it were (apologies for the technoclunk description).

If you've got more than one video on YouTube, why would you want to be showing other people's video icons in that space instead of your own? It strikes me as being like automatically having links out of your own home page to other, far more interesting sites - ones that YouTube would like everybody to flit around. Gimme a break, let me at least show you what I've got before you go! I know it can be done...

I'm glad it worked. I had trouble with my latest upload and tech support response was non-specific. I found this answer from another user, and it works great. The sound quality came right up to the level of my original. Using their 'Wacth in High Quality' only changes the video quality, not the sound. This little trick fixes both.

As far as showing your More From Username drop automatically opened, I dunno. If you find out, let us know. I agree that it's kind of silly to provide links away automatically instead of links inward automatically. That's bass ackwards. I'd certainly like to know how to change that.

There's another issue. YouTube won't allow you to make more than 3 posts in a certain amount of time that is undisclosed. You get a message "you've exceeded your posting limit". Whats up with that? You can't just write 'Hey! Great video' in multiple places? Sheesh!

To my ears the sound is better in high quality - sounds stereo to me.

I tried to watch this but I got to be a "friend" before I can do that. I have a youtube account, can you set me up as a friend so I can watch this?

Thanks,

I am so glad to have found this thread. I have been working with Vegas Movie Studio for years, and just recently started to play with youtube. My videos for DVD have always looked great. The stuff I'm putting on youtube looks horrible.

I'll try some of the things mentioned here and see if I can't get things to look better.

YouTube - rctoyguy's Channel

There are only a couple out there now, and most of them are me trying every combination of rendering I can think of to compare.

Shouldn't I be able to get better looking stuff on youtube? I record on Mini-DV, transfer to the pc via firewire, and edit in VMS Platinum 7.
