Sony Vegas and Media Studio Yep, I know they're not related, but they both fall in the Premiere Alternative bracket in my humble opinion! Post here for Ulead Media Studio or Vegas video problems or pointers...

Default Whatt's the difference between Media FX and Video Event FX in Vegas 7?

I just make videos, but I really don't know the difference between these two. I normally use just Media FX and Video Output FX. Can someone explain the difference between Media and Video Event FX to me? I need to know this for my benefit. I want to take this editing very serious.

Media fx - is only applied to a single clip on the timeline - other clips on the track are unaffected.

Track fx - applied to all clips on that track. Fx can be keyframed.

Video output fx - affects all video on all tracks, can be keyfrmaed.

I was hoping that Mark W put out a less than stellar explanation..but he nailed it...my opinion, you as someone inexperienced with editing would be best to stick with the media FX. Use your preview pane and determine what you want to do clip by clip.

No, no no!.

Many times you will find that perhaps you haven't perhaps got your white balance correct or some other setting that runs through the whole movie. Track FX allows you to correct stuff without time consumingly and pointlessly applying it to individual clips. An extremely useful tool and not to be overlooked.

Andy - yes. I have to agree with you.

However ( with me there is always an "however" - sorry! ) , I found I had to make many MANY stubborn mistakes on my own, to come to a conclusion that I was also along your lines of thinking too.

Paste Attributes is another "multi" Event changing option.

Bottom line, often in Vegas, we are very fortunate to be able to employ many different approaches. In the final analysis it is HOW we get to the video narrative and HOW fast we do that process that makes the viewer/audience experience exceptional or average or boredom or confusion. It is ALL about the narrative and whether it is engaging or not. If I employ a workflow method that gets me in amongst the story in a slippery/slick way, then all the better.

Couldn't agree more. I love the way there are so many different ways to get what you're after....
