What and where are the additional software downloads I need in order to be able to use Sony Vegas 6? I have seen the links somewhere on this site but cannot find them.

I am not sure what you mean? Perhaps codecs to enable vegas to edit divx, and such like ? If wmp can play a video then it ususally means that hte codec is installed and usually you can edit it.

Is that what you mean?
