Sony Vegas and Media Studio Yep, I know they're not related, but they both fall in the Premiere Alternative bracket in my humble opinion! Post here for Ulead Media Studio or Vegas video problems or pointers...

Default Audio Proxy File and .AVI

I recently downloaded the trial version of Sony Vegas Movie Studio 6.0b. As a test, I wanted to work with a video file I captured from a DV camcorder that has been saved to my hard drive in .avi format. The file is quite large, >12GB. It includes both audio and video tracks and can successfully playback via Windows Media Player. However, when attempting to use it in the Sony editing software, the audio track gets lost. When I import the media file, the software creates a proxy audio file, presumably because my .avi file contains both audio and video. However, when I preview the project no audio is heard. I am pretty sure that I haven't muted anything. Shouldn't the audio play with the video? Do I need to separately add the audio track to the timeline? If so, how? Please advise regarding what is likely a commonly experienced problem.

Thanks.

Ian

That's odd... the more common problem is actually audio but no video on .avi's. Sorry i can't help you out, as i haven't seen this problem before, but I would check in options>preferences to ensure "ignore third party codecs" isn't blocking a necessary codec?
