There seem to be problems pretty much at random (or so it seems to me)
It is NOT that the clips are ones that I have generated by snipping/slicing cips from my camera. I just loaded a clip from my camera and in Goldwave I was told that I can't edit it in the same format, and Audio studio simply crashed when I went to save the first time, and gave the error message "an exception.." the second time, third time, fourth time and fifth time. Each time accepting the error message said resulted in Audio studio closing down.
I have uploaded the clip with the un-editable audio to http://ds21.cc.yamaguchi-u.ac.jp/~ec...p/CIMG0031.AVI
it is the most boring and nauseous clip you are likely to see.
By the way, what is the use of the "trimmer" one cann't even trim in it!

I've followed this thread with some interest. It seems to me that the error you're getting when trying to save a file would be generated if the file was also still open in Vegas or maybe even a different audio editor. Make sure it's not in use by any other program at the same time.
Not being sure of the audio tools in Vegas Movie Studio (I use the full version) I would have thought that there would be a way of altering volume at cetain points. Try right clicking the audio track (on the clip selected). If an option that says - Envelope - Volume appears, select it. A blue bar will appear on the track. In Vegas, you can click to create points on that bar to raise / lower volume at those points. Along at the left of the track, you may have an icon for Track FX too (I doubt it but it might be there). If it is, click that and in Vegas full you get all sorts of filters and tools to play with.
Hope this helps.

The audio files are still open in Vegas, but I thought that that was the norm. You can select "open in audio editor" (which changes to "open in Sound Forge" when it is the sony product) and when you close the editor and return to vegas the changes are shown in the audio time line.
There is an outside change that one of the editors appeared to have died but remained hitched on to the file in the background but that seems unlikely since it was telling me that it did not like file TYPE not that it could not save to the same file.
Thanks for the envelope advice.
The envelope tool is not there in standard edit mode, but there is an icon at the top of the screen called envelop edit tool, which when clicked gives the right click menu.
There are only volume and pan envelopes it seems.
Is there a notch or lowpass filter envelope in vegas? Or is it possible to remove noise using a sample of the noise? That would solve my audio problems and be a good reason for purchasing the full product.
Thanks again.

Yes Tim, there are lots of eq settings and effects to play with. Not in envelopes as such though, just track FX settings adjustable with keyframes.

I always thought the sound functions ion vegas were excellent, I hardly ever use an external app for sound editing and what not.
Noise subtraction is not available afain, and anyway imho it doesnt really work very well anyway. Just try using a noise gate.

Thanks. There only seems to be a bass, mid range, treble equalizer in Movie Studio.
