Premiere Elements shook the video editing market to the core; high end features traditionally reserved for bulging wallets came as standard. Finally we're seeing a move away from the simplistic "storyboard" based editing. But there's one video editing suite that's always pushed the boundaries of low costs video editing applications: Pure Motion Edit Studio.

Video software falls into three separate yet indistinct categories: Editing, Compositing, and DVD authoring. A pro insists on the very best software for each category. The rest of us make do with our editing software to achieve those funky effects: I've spent hours producing a mediocre effect only for someone to suggest a composting tool would have done the job better in less time. But composting tools don't come cheap, and even if they did, separate video editing and compositing software just adds more bloat and another step in the editing process. Life would be so much easier (and for that matter cheaper) if the editing suite achieved all you needed. The level of "compositing" you can achieve is therefore a great judge of an editing suite. Conventional wisdom dictates specialist software produces the most accomplished results and you certainly wouldn't expect any compositing tools within a low cost video editing package. Yet that's exactly what Edit Studio promises to deliver. Pure Motion also listened to their users and add to the power of Edit Studio by incorporating more standard editing features in this release. But the proof, as they say, is in the editing.
