'TV Anywhere' Becomes a Reality for Windows PC Users

NEW YORK, Oct. 12 /PRNewswire/ -- Hauppauge Computer Works, Inc., the industry leader in providing personal computer-based TV receivers, and Orb Networks, the award-winning developer of software and services that unlock the digital media stored on personal computers, today announced that Orb will be bundled with Hauppauge's WinTV-PVR TV tuners in the U.S.

The Hauppauge WinTV-PVR's are high performance PC based TV receivers which allow PC users to watch and record TV on their PCs. The internal WinTV-PVR-150 board and the external USB based WinTV-PVR-USB2 will have the Orb application included so that users can not only watch TV on their PC screens, but watch their TV while traveling.

The WinTV-PVR with Orb bundles are coming to US consumers through online and retail stores throughout the United States, giving Windows PC owners the ability to take their TV anywhere. First launched in Europe in June, the WinTV-PVR with Orb bundle with be available starting this October through consumer electronics retail outlets nationwide including Circuit City, CompUSA and Best Buy as well as online at www.hauppauge.com/orb for $99 to $149.

The combination of Hauppauge's WinTV-PVR products and Orb turns Windows XP and Media Center PCs into digital broadcast hubs for streaming TV shows and other digital media to virtually any Internet-enabled device for viewing anywhere, any time. Digital media includes live and recorded TV, Internet TV, music, videos, photos, podcasts, and other similar content.

"Hauppauge WinTV-PVR users now can watch, record and even pause TV streamed from their home to almost any location in the world on virtually any Web-enabled mobile device," said Ken Plotkin, CEO of Hauppauge. "By bundling our products with the Orb application, we're making the concept of 'TV Anywhere' a reality for millions."

The new Hauppauge WinTV-PVR with Orb bundle gives consumers unprecedented freedom and control over their digital lives. In addition to viewing live and pre-recorded TV programs outside the home, consumers can also schedule recordings so they don't miss their favorite show, sports game and more! With ORB, any cell phone with Internet access turns into a PVR remote control on the go without any additional and expensive software download to the handset: consumers can now record those shows even if they forgot to do it at home.

Once installed, the Hauppauge PVR receiver meshes with Orb application transmitting TV and other digital media for viewing on web-enabled devices such as mobile phones, PDAs and laptops running either Windows or Mac operating systems.

"The Hauppauge-Orb partnership extends our service beyond traditional place-shifting," said Herve Utheza, vice president and executive producer, TV properties at Orb. "With one simple install of a Hauppauge WinTV-PVR card, consumers can immediately access their home media libraries from anywhere they have a broadband Internet connection. They can organize their media the way they want, easily, with the power of the Orb experience."
