There may be times when you need to adjust the volume of an entire clip or just a portion. This is simple and easy with Premiere using "keyframes" and "volume". The first thing you need to do is change the audio track to display the waveform and keyframes. To do this, click on the triangle to the far left of the timeline shown below:
After expanding your timeline will look something like this:
We now need to enable keyframes. If you click on the cirlced button above, you get the following options:
The options for "clip" mean the attributes for the selected clip will be shown and any changes applied to that clip only. Show track options will apply changes to the entire track. So if you want to apply a volume change to the whole track and not just the clip, cjose "track". In this example we're going to work with just one clip, so select show Clip Volume.
You'll now be able to add keyframe. So left click on the audio file in the timeline you want to, then click the cirlce as shown above. A keyframe will be added to the audio track at the timeline marker:
You can now control the volume of the clip by moving the keyframe up and down. To get greater control over the level, expand the track as below:
You can achieve this big left clicking the base of the track and draging down. We can now control the level of the audio over the whole clip (or the timeline if show track volume was selected); to increase or decrease the volume as the clips plays, we need to add more keyframes. Below I have added 3 more keyframes so that we can increase the volume, the decrease:
So we've now increased the volume of a portion of our clip. You can add as many keyframes as you like and change that troublesome audio as necessary! Take care not to increase the volume too high as the sound will distort.
