If they are the smaller dvcam tapes then any Sony mini-dv camcorder will play them. For your info.
Is there anyone near Lancashire / Manchester that would be willing to transfer a couple of DVCAM tapes onto a DVD or AVI files or something for me ?
I have just been snet a few for a project i am doing, and i have nothing to play them on as i only use MiniDV, I could send them back to the guy and get them done by him, but it would take too long really
If anyone can help just send me a message or e-mail me on mail@mc-video.co.uk
( only needed this weekend - 14/15th feb if your reading this as an old thread )

The camera should play back as normal. It won't record in dvcam but all the Sonys should play back mini dvcam tapes. At work we've an old vx2000 which does, so the 2100 should as well.
To quote Sony "...Sony DV products, except for the original two camera's (DCR-VX700 and VX1000), also have full playback compatibility with DVCAM tapes."
Do you have your camcorder set to LP maybe?
Sorry, I can't help you any more.

i will give that a go later when i get back, will let you know how it goes in case anyone else is wondering
Cheers
Well i have give it a go, and tried changing between LP and SP etc, but still nothing, very weird really, especially if you say the VX2000 does it
Anyone else have any info on this that could help ?
When you play them back in the VX2000 does it show on the LCD? or is it just in Firewire transfer to the PC ?
It shows in the lcd. Like I said, Sony say that all their camcorders (with the two exceptions) will play back dvcam so either:
(a) the tape's buggered.
(b) you're doing something wrong or
(c) your camcorder's buggered
I recommend having a good read of the instruction book for your camcorder, it might help you out.
Edit: The most common (c) mistake is forgetting to rewind the tape before pressing "play".

Sounds like the tape or camera may have a fault.
Even a camera that cant play dv cam tapes will show something in my expirience - but the picture is garbled.
