| | Avid Xpress fatal error message at startup So I've just reinstalled Avid Xpress Pro (I had a serious harddrive crash ) but when I started it up I got this message: An ACCESS_VIOLATION exeption occurred. For more information see the error log (etc.)
So I checked the errorlog and it said: EVENTLOG

20060716021419 Shutdown Application is terminating normally
I'm also having trouble capturing my material, assumingly because of this.
It was fine for a while then it stopped capturing, showed the ACCESS_VIOLATION error message and just restarted my computer automatically. Now it crashes every time I capture!
So what does this mean? What is wrong? Please help anyone. |

| | You say you've just reinstalled Avid. I assume this is on a brand new drive with a clean install of windows give the "serious hard drive crash"? |

So it's a clean install allright which makes it even more of a mystery to me why things aren't working. |

| | Things have gone from bad to worse...
I tried to capture again, but after a while the screen just turned blue and was filled with a Windows error message something along the lines of: A problem is discovered and Windows is shut down to avoid damage to the computer. etc. etc.
The bottom of the page showed this technical information: *** STOP: 0X0000007E (0X80000003, 0XBA986EC8, 0XBAEAEC04, 0XBAEAE900)
*** ALCXWDM.SYS - Adress BA986EC8 base at BA981000, Datestamp 419b3079 Starts dumping physical memory.
Dumping physical memory to disc:
Does anyone know what this means? I'm in real trouble here... |

| | It might be worth running some system checks on the harddrive as there may be faults / bad sectors. |

| | I decided to try one last time before I doing a full system check.
So I've tried capturing again. One small clip (6min) got in ok, but when I tried capturing a longer one my computer crashed again and the blue screen showd with this new error message: DRIVER_IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL
Technical information: *** STOP: 0X000000D1 (0X00009F12, 0X000000FF, 0X00000000, 0X00009F12)
Does anyone know what this means? Is it still referring to the sound card driver or what? |

| | To be honest, the longer you leave running diagnostics on the drive, the greater the risk of complete failure. I strongly suggest you check for bad sectors on the disk and eliminate this before progressing. |
