I'm new to the video editing game. I am using Studio 10 and have high speed internet and was wondering if it is nessessary to turn off my cable modem while capturing and editing video. Any other helpfull hints in setup would be appreciated.

Don't worry about tweaking your PC if you have good specs.

CPU-Pentium 4 2.0 GHZ
RAM-1 GB
External HD 160 MB
Geforce 5500 video card.
Don't know anything about raid setup or dual channel.

Sounds good enough so I don't think you have to worry that it won't cope with your video tasks. Sure, it also depends on the software configuration.
