Default DVCAM and Pinnacle Studio 9

Hi - hope someone can help... or maybe just confirm that I've cocked up and will now need to change my editing software as well...

I take video when scuba diving and originally used a Panasonic DX110 and Pinnacle Studio (7 then 9) as the editor. This gave some good results but the housing had a number of limitations... So I investigated a new housing and, as the DX110 wouldn't fit other housings, a new camera. On that basis I ended up with a Light and Motion housing and, as the camera market had moved on, a Sony PDX10.

You can probably guess what is coming...

In Pinnacle, MiniDV can be imported as .avi to give good quality, yet I now find that the better quality from DVCAM can only be imported as lower quality MPEG2 - unless anyone knows different?

Any advice/comment gratefully received. Cheers, Sam

You should not be limited to MPEG2. Your software should be creating an identical copy of the DVCAM video.

on the capture tab in studio look under the disk meter and there are three buttons.

one is DV full quality
two is mpeg capture
three is preview quality

just select the top one to import as .avi

hope this is what you needed.

Default Mmmm

Thanks for the help folks.
I've just upgraded to 9.4 and tried it again.
At first I got the same error that it wanted me to change the settings - I went into the tab and tabbed through a few fields and exited without changing anything.
It then started downloading OK from the camera but the preview screen just showed the Pinnacle logo..
However the video seems to have downloaded in decent .avi quality so I'll have a further play...
Thanks again, Sam
