I've just browsed a couple about capture problems. Try these before you go any further - there must be a solution. Did you manage to capture with Elements?

No luck with elements - all I get is a window ' CAN'T ACTIVATE RECORDER - TRY RESETTING CAMERA '

just a thought but if you have pinnacle and premiere on your system at hte same time there may be a conflict between the two.

I had more or less the same problem when I put a trial version of premiere on when I already had studio installed.

In the end had to unistall both and and reload the ieee1394 firewire drivers and then reinstall studio, then all worked fine.

if that doesn't work keep trying the pinnacle webboard as there are some good guys on there who can help you solve this. they certainly helped me out a couple of times.

Movie maker gives me the error message: Unknown Error It never gets to the capture stage.

Nero pretends to record but when you stop the record, it says it can't analyze the data. A check of the so-called 'captured file' shows 0 bytes. It can't analyze what isn't there. No preview at all.

Pinnacle pretends to record but nothing is recorded and no file is created. No preview either.

Amcap gives me an error message (0x8007001F)..whatever that means. It still pretends to record with no preview and nothing captured.

Roxio DVD Builder tells me it can't detect my Sony camcorder, yet, it KNOWS it's a Sony camcorder...go figure. LOL

I've reviewed the Pinnacle support area in detail and nothing works. My computer is plenty fast enough...2.0 and has enough ram 512. Called Microsoft and they won't talk to me without a $35 contract cuz my computer is out of warranty. Adaptec blames Microsoft and vice versa. I sent Pinnacle an email and have heard nothing. This is crazy.

A possibility is that your DirectShow DLLs are getting mapped
incorrectly. To eliminate this possibility re-register the qdv.dll which is
used for dv avi capture/encoding. Execute the following line on Start > Run dialogue

regsvr32 %windir%\system32\qdv.dll
