Default Video Quality

Hello,
Video Mixing is a new field to me. I have some problems
regarding video quality which I hope to be solved in this forum.
I am using Pinnacle AV/DV 9 for capturing video & studio 9 for
editting. The problem is the the picture quality of Final Video. I
capture the video at full DVD quality& after editting when I create
movie in MPG 1 (Video CD) format
the quality disappears. The final video is very dull & vague.
Pls let me know what is behind this.

My PC Config is:-
H/W Intel 915 GVA Mother board, Intel 3.0 Ghz processor,
1 GB DDR 400 Mhz RAM,Geforce 5300 graphics card.
S/W WIndows XP with SP II, Pinacle Studio 9 plus & Sonic Foundry
Vegas.

MPEG1 isn't exactly a shining example of a codec that's capable of either high quality and/or low compression. Switch to either MPEG2 or MPEG4 such as DivX, XVid or WMV.

I think the cause of poor quality video (besides using MPEG-1 as exporting format) is the capture in MPEG-2, a very lossy format itself.
So if you're worried about color, contrast, sharp etc. try capturing in a better format (DV if you have a digital source or M-JPEG for analog sources), then edit and then export to whichever format you prefer (even the lousy MPEG-1 will look better than if you had captured in MPEG-2)...

Default Other Capturing Software

Thank You Very Much for the guidance!!!

Will you please suggest any capturing software other than pinnacle studio 9. I tried Vegas but that says the device couldn't be started.
Suggest any one that supports Pinnacle AV/DV card.

Best Regards,
Nand Kishore

I'm looking for an alternative to PS 9 myself, mainly because Studio does not support multi-track editing.

As SVHS said, MPEG2 is not a format intended for editing or capture, but a export (by the way, very very good export codec)
