Problem importing video in Studio 8

I'm a bit new to this video editing lark, so sorry if this is a stupid question.

I've just installed version 8, and tried to import a video file previously captured from a VCR, via a USB connection and an Adaptec VideOh! DVD Media Centre and the program crashes, giving a "Studio Program File" Windows error message.

The Error Signature is:

AppName: Studio.exe AppVer: 8.3.17.0 ModName: studio.exe
ModVer: 8.3.17.0 Offset: 0010cc46

As is normal with Windows error messages this is utterly useless in terms of actually telling you how to correct the problem (if it can be) so I just wondered if anyone might know what I'm doing wrong.
