Question Converting files captured in Avid to a generic video format such as AVI...

About a year ago, an editor I was working with captured a whole bunch of my rushes from DVCAM to some Avid-only file format, and has since had to pull out from the project, leaving me with the captured Avid files. Only problem is, I don't work with Avid, and I don't own a copy of Avid, nor know anyone else with Avid, so I am desperate to somehow convert these "Avid-only" files into a generic video format, such as AVI, enabling me to import them into an NLE like Vegas and continue working on them.

Does anyone know of a way of doing this?

OK, maybe the question should be, is there a way of playing Avid MXF files in Vegas Pro 8? Vegas says it opens *.mxf files, but whenever I try to open or import one, it always tells me...

Warning: An error occurred while opening one or more files.

An unexpected error has occurred.
Then when clicking the "Details" button, it just displays the directory of the file with "could not be opened." at the end.
