They might call their program 'RegDelete', yes I ran it then searched the registry and I can see it doesn't delete everything (a Lot!) studio tried to put in there. In addition, it doesn't delete all the many files it created, some of which sit in your Windows hidden temp directory. They could be lurking under Administrator/All users/Default User - it's up to you to find them and XP search doesn't do a good job on hidden system files, even though you ticked the check box! Once you lose the XP install list after an aborted install, you end up with a real mess of registry tracks, files and folders. If you succeed in getting Studio 11 to eventually re-install then OK most of the entries should get updated, but decide to abandon the install and you have a permanent history clogging your PC.

Their wizard needs to combine both the registry and file deletes, which their RegDelete doesn't do.

If a re-install finds entries in the hidden temp folder it crashes with messages like 'dll's not found'. On their website FAQ in another section they tell you where the temp file is and to delete it as well as other folders that can stop a re-install.

Sony Firewire I-link only uses 4 pins. The full firewire PC connector usually has 6 pins because the other 2 are used to carry power to the linked device. Since the 4 pin I-link doesn't carry power the only risk should be from data lines which I'd expect to be buffered. Anyway, I was just suggesting that before you assume you blew up the interface, just remove the Fireware controller first and let XP re-install it at re-boot with the camera connected.

Terfyn, have you actually used Studio 11.1 to author a BD disk, because I asked them when the drivers would be available and they said there was no release date.

Tell the guys who had their cameras blown by connecting a "live" firewire.

It is the insertion of the plug that does the damage. You have no control over which terminal connects first. I know of four Canon HV20s to suffer this fate. The official line is connect the firewire and then switch on.
I don't do BR but have seen Blu-Ray running on a PS3.

I am having problems with jerky or black previews on the preview screen. Also the install is going pretty rough. I did get it installed and then tried to register it like they encouraged. No luck so I went to the Pinnical site and registered that way. My system is Intel Pentium 4CPU 2.4 GHz with 1 GB ram. I have a seperate hard drive 240 gigs for storing video and an external 500 gig hard drive as a spare. There is no message from Studio that my hard drives are not fast enough. My kids (both IT professionals) built my computer so I am not sure about the graphics card, but guess it is good enough. I my first install I saw a message saying the video card would not work, but it never came back in the following re installs. I will keep trying, but am losing patience.

Looks like I got stuck in the "oh I'll just install it, it can't be so hard."syndrom. The jerkyness and black screen on the preview screen was due to a malfunctioning hard drive. I assumed, there's the key word, that if the hard drive was not fast enough, Studio would flag it. I had run the Pinnical test and the drive passed, but there must be something wrong beside speed. When I hooked up my external hard drive to my computer and transferred my files from the internal hard drive to the external hard drive, things previewed like normal. I still don't know if it is the actual hard drive or the computer set up/system.

I guess the message to myself is: 1. Read the instructions. 2. Actually follow the instructions 3. Chill out you old dude, it ain't the end of the world.
