Codec to convert Avi 1 to Avi 2 files for Studio 9?

I just have the Pinnacle 9 trial version.

It will import .mpeg, .mpg, and .avi files, yet will not open them. I was just

wondering if anyone knows what codecs I might need, if it's because it's just the

trial version, or ?

Why wouldn't Pinnacle provide conversions from avi 1 to avi 2 or give links to

download the proper codecs?

Solutions and suggestions are greatly appreciated!
