| | Well said Marc. I think Martin has over reacted a tad to some apposite points. I dont think anyone was particularly rude and it is unfortunate he has got all flustered. Probalby he lives and breathes this mysteriouis project and perchance has become a bit obsessed and defensive. Either that or he has a messiah complex.... That last bit 'save this thread...' is just hilarious.
Chill out martin and good luck with your project.

| | Ouch. Just a note back. They were not critics. They were legitimate questions that I felt required answers. Not meant in a nasty way either, simply an attempt to establish the facts. No raw nerve hit either. I am totally with you in the pretentious pros aspect though. It is of course proper and correct for people to be sceptical and investigative and you should expect that when touting the "next big thing". As we all know, there's no such thing as a free lunch. |

| | Caution is advised and sensible. 18 months ago I did loads of filming for a pilot of a show that was going to be the next big thing. I got all enthused by the producers blah blah. They had no cash but were sure they would be able to pay me when they were rich. I must have done 200 hours of work for them and hey guess what the pilot was crap (hey, wanst my filming it was crap editing by another) and looking back the idea was crap and they were scammers and I never got paid.... The expirience was good I suppose but the money would have been nicer.

Just checked thier (hibernating) site http://urbanikons.com/ , the gits, they used some of the vidoe i shot on the site, they got all this bollox on how ethical thier business is and then they didnt even plug me in thier links.

| | Well ,they o9nly said they would pay me when the show sold and I was daft enough to believe them, looking back I was a vi8ctim of my own greed / naivite and of thier cynical manipulation. As I said tho it was good expirience and I did have time on my hands back then.

| | Hang on a minute....
Someone comes onto a free forum and asks for people to work for nothing, preferably using their own equipment, on an unknown project, on the off-chance that maybe, possibly, if the project's a success, might earn some money out of it. No wonder lots of questions were asked.
Unfortunately there are lots and lots of people out there who haven't thought their projects through and rely on the (unpaid) efforts of others to get it done. I'm not saying that Martin is one of these, but we have to be sure...don't we?
There will be plenty of mugs... I mean wanabees.. I mean "newcomers" who are so desperate to do "glamour" work that they'll work for nothing.
As for the insulting comments about amateurs that they "are more professional than most of the pro's we worked with and certainly not as pretentious". I read that to mean that professionals and semi-professionals can smell a bullsh*tter a mile off and therefore Martin can only find amateurs to work for him. As the regulars know, I work regularly in the adult satellite sector and have always found that genuine producers prefer to use professionals who know what they're doing, that's why we're still in work.
If this were a genuine opportunity then he'd be up-front about the whole deal, giving facts and figures and not hiding behind the phrase "copyright infringements " which, as any experienced producer knows, is another way of saying " I've got an idea but since I'm not sure I can sell it I don't want to let anyone know what it is in case they do it better."
If this in an idea to "audition" actreses for a role in an adult movie, film the auditions and then use the material a la "Pop Idol" as a series. Then that' s a scam older than video, been done loads of times, and in the end neither the hopefulls or the crew make money.
Where he was right is that he has come to a forum where a lot of people have experience, know a lot, don't need to work for free and are very wary of producers looking for people to work for nothing.
What he hasn't realised is that if he were genuine and had a serious, well planned, and commercially viable project, he could find all the experienced crew, editors and prouduction staff he could ever need on this forum. Win some, lose some. |

| | Martin has offended the Guru and has got what he so clearly deserved. As the big G says he really has been a silly bugger....
If he came back and acted a bit more respectfully I am sure he might still find what he is after, but I just dont think that is going to happen. Oh well.
