Oh it's nothing against the commercial link. More the fact that this is the nth post about stock footage in a week. It would be good if my members received incentives for a change. No offence like marc says but we do have a sense of humour.
It has always seemd to me an odd thing to buy - I mean if you can edit a film then chances are you have the skills to cobble together some backgrounds.

I agree with you, film makers and video editors can made very professional computer 3d video backgrounds or stock footage.
Also, video backgrounds and stock footage save time and money if you have overnight deadline.
You can put few video backgrounds in After Effects and made very professional and exclusive background for your project in few minutes.
Video backgrounds are the easiest way to dramatically improve quality of your video editing and effortlessly achieve professional results, while saving your time and money.

Easy to understand the proliferation of stock footage sites. It's very much like the 'webspace' market where there's really not that many sellers of server space, but a whole pyramid of resellers structured underneath.
