Default The Perfect PC for £3000

Hi Guys

Doing a project at school in ICT... got to build a top notch video editing system for £3000...

Need to include a spec for the machine... which includes prices for software....

You can spend around£1500 on a pc and it will be a dynamite machine for editing then spend the rest on a pro capture card

Haven't really got time to look for prices, but:

AMD Athlon 64 4800
Asus A8N-SLI motherboard
4GB RAM (bear in mind winxp 32 bit can only handle 4GB including virtual RAM so you may have to turn paging off)
A couple of 500GB SATA HDDs (possibly a WD raptor 10kRPM HD too)
A decent Tagan branded PSU
Geforce 7800 (although you don't necessarily need the incredibly fast GPU, you may as well future-proof yourself for software that uses GPU rendering)
Two TFT monitors.
A really, really big egg.

Spend the rest on ham and chocolate digestives.

Dude - the guy is looking at vidoe editing not gaming! Although a highly specced gaming machine will do video it will not be optimized for video.

You need to look into dual cpu boards - not dual core but dual cpu's

true but - most pc based edit rigs I've used have been server boards and they work a treat

With the spare 1500 I would buy a q head g card and 4 HUGE TFTs.

Journeyman - Although the DFI is a good gamers board, personally I don't reckon you can fault Asus for stability, which is more important for video editing IMHO.

As for the CPU, I did atually mean an Athlon X2 4800. Missed that bit out
