To summarise then:

Desire to free up desk space + need for kudos +/- (dummy variable to take into account fear of new technology or propensity to spend) = Buy TFT

Have an expensive CRT + Want to keep budget low = Stick with CRT

I would say that if you're buying new monitor, go for TFT with DVI connections. I love my TFT as the picture is perfect, no dead pixels, colours are sharp and the image crisp. Just be prepared to spend more!

Well, here's he "thang", it was actually a cheap! I'd set my heart on a TFT, and after arming myself with response times and all the jargon that goes with new technology, I eventually settled on an ATEC AL181N - http://www.atech.co.kr/eng/product/neoview_al181n.htm

If you're really picky, you could say that the contrast ratio is lower at 350 : 1 than the 500 : 1 claimed by the big manufacturers, but I honestly am VERY pleased with the monitor. As I say, no dead pixels plus you get a whole host of input connections and optional tv tuner to boot. Oh, and the viewing angle is superb!

Sure, there are better monitors, but not this cheap!!! http://www.dabs.com/uk/channels/hard...quicklinx=2BD6

Mark, does your TFT ever get blurry when youre watching video? Someone told its just a bunch of liquid on comb... and that its gets blurry with video because the liquid cant move as quick... or something like that?

srry, I know this is old but I just had to clear this up. A TV is very low resolution. A standard TV has a resolution of 800x600 which yes, can make it hard to read text and hurt your eyes.
