Thanks for the answer. Camera isn't recognised by Premier Pro or even windows. Has happened with 2 cameras. Second camera wasn't recognised, then was for a short time, now isn't recognised again.
Going to see a Sony guy tomorrow about it.
Actually another camera that used to be recognised isn't recognised anymore. Also an external firewire drive isn't recognised anymore. This on 4 different machines that have never had this problem before.
Can 4 different machine have their firewire port just stop working?
Is why I was looking for a firewire alternative?
Don't know if it's related - but at the same time the camera stopped working with firewire, it developed the habit of switching itself off and then on again. At completely random times, with battery and on power supply, camera or video mode, with or without a tape in.
Someone suggested a dodgy tape might cause this, but we are using Sony tape.
Have you ever heard of anything like this before.?
Service pack 2 but not recently. The only recent change is the adobe update for HDV. Service pack 2 in necessary for HDV.
Just been in touch with Sony who said the 1st camera 'disk was wiped' - that's a translation from Czech - I take it to mean the firmware was erased or corrupted.
Opinion seem to be one firwire card has developed a problem, and devices plugged into it are affected, which is why they won't work on other machines.
Later today going to get a new Sony capture card and new Sony cable.
Would be grateful if you have a recommendation of a capture card.
