Default Powerbook g4 or g5

I am student with low funds but have managed to save some money for my ultimate video editing laptop. Yes I already know that a tower is better..faster hard drives...expansion...etc. But I am now ready to lay some serious cash down for a laptop because I want to documentarys and I ty to travel as much as possibile in the summers, which means that I need a portable editing machine with me. Should I go for a powerbook g4 17inch now or wati until the "g5" comes out. I am never good at picking mac stuff because the next insane one comes out a month later.....what should I do?

you could always go for something like a mini-itx and a tft monitor. Far more powerful and cheaper than a lappie, and nearly as portable. No use ON LOCATION, but if you're to be working from a base, it'd be perfect. better upgradeability too.

Well, it depends on how much you want it now. If you want it as cheap as you can get it, wait longer. Prices drop. The price of the current one will drop when the new one comes out. You need it now? get it now. really though, wait until the last minute and buy it.

Since you bring up the idea of waiting till the last minute I think I will....you reminded me of the tmes I bough a peice of technology a few months early only to have one with more capabilities come out when I actually started using the products..it really ticked me off. Thanks for reminding me I will wait till the last minute...I might find a good deal or a new powerbook might come out...thanks mrlipring!
